The Active Investor Plus (AIP) visa is New Zealand's residence visa category for high-value investors. Introduced by Immigration New Zealand, the AIP framework directs investor capital into productive New Zealand businesses in priority growth sectors and allows applicants to obtain New Zealand residence by meeting investment, time-in-New-Zealand and other criteria.

The AIP visa is delivered through two pathways. Investors may combine categories to reach the required threshold:

• Growth category — NZ$5 million over 3 years. Direct investment, or investment via a managed fund, into qualifying New Zealand businesses and managed funds (including private equity, private credit and listed equity within specified parameters). Immigration New Zealand permits AIP investment to be made through approved managed funds — including New Zealand limited partnership structures — that invest into qualifying New Zealand operating businesses. Managed funds give investors diversified exposure, independent governance and professional portfolio management, while still satisfying the AIP investment criteria.
